Yarn-Over, Ligature… Same Difference.
lig·a·ture [lig-uh-cher, -choor] noun. — Printing. a character or type combining two or more letters. (Yarn overs aren't all that different)

I have my first free pattern download up on ravelry right now, and it's getting fantastic attention. Lots of hearts, lots of queues, and lots of really warm and encouraging comments!

Lookee!

A PDF of my arm warmer pattern can be downloaded at this post ^_^

In other news, I'm posting my gift list for the Knit All Year blog for May. I won't post it here, but I'm very excited about the progress I'm making!

I'm making huge progress on my gift item that I'm not posting about (not really, but if you're not my parents, click here for a picture~). If you want more details, check it out on Ravelry since I know they won't see anything there.

Now in other news, I bought a new toy! I keep hearing such helpful things about using scales to measure your yarn, and I managed to find one that wasn't too expensive and has measurements that go low enough to weigh yarn.

I also learned how to do a Russian join today!

[Edited April 29, 2008: Added Pattern and download)
[Edited May 9, 2008: Pattern is being updated for the right-hand side… apparently my instructions of "reverse for right glove" are a bit too ambiguous for some. Stay tuned!)

I knit some cabled arm-warmers for my friend Anna. These were long overdue, and I'm very happy to have them done. We're going to consider them an early birthday present, even though her birthday is in November. The pattern is pretty much my own, and the cable pattern is borrowed from a book even if it is a really simple one. I intentionally off-set the cables and I think they look pretty cool.

I'm very new at this, and any pattern I've come up with is really just me trying things out until they work. Hopefully someone else can get something out of them. The patterns are free, and I don't mind if you use them, but please give me some credit if you do ^_^

Cabled Arm Warmers

Knit Sleep Mask

First off, Studio Knit is having a contest to celebrate 500 posts. Wow. Just wow. Go check it out and make sure to say that you found her through my blog!

Now onto the WIPs!

I started Arbor earlier this week and haven't gotten very far I must say ^^;; The yarn is thick and a little stiff to work with so I'm having trouble wanting to push forward. I think I need another Knit knite to get in the mood. Anyway, here's a picture of my progress. The white edge is the provisional cast-on edge and is temporary ^^;;

I have also started a bigger project that I won't be talking about here because it's a holiday secret! If you're not mom and dad, click here ^_^ If you want to see the plan it's here! I apologize for the crypticness of this post ^^;;; If you're on the Year Long Gift-a-long blog, you'll get plenty more information out of me yet!

Branching out into lace

I had some yarn left over from the arm warmers (see that post here) and decided to put it to good use and make Anna a lace scarf to wear with her arm warmers ^^ It's a lovely lace pattern, and it turned out nicely.

Cabled Fingerless Arm-warmers Progress update
Recipient: Anna
Occasion: Christmas
Deadline: December 2008

I started these mittens at the beginning of April. They've been on my year long gift along list since the beginning of the year and I'm finally making progress on them. I think part of what helps is that I've decided to knit them both at the same time. I'd say they're about 30 % done. I'm using the Big Braid cable from Interweave's cables stitchonary and I'm very happy with how it's going.

I also went on a mini excursion to Knit-knackers today between work and meeting a friend for coffee. Sadly the bunnies weren't out today. I suspect because it was so cold and unpleasant and according to the lady working today he was all alone and probably wasn't feeling very social. I did end up buying some recycled silk sari hand-spun. It's lovely and I can't wait to try to make something out of it!

My very fist sweater is complete! All in all, I liked the pattern, and i think it was a great sweater to start with, but now it's starting to get warm and I want to knit something I can wear. Also, it ended up being a little on the small side which was a good learning experience.

Thermal (pattern) (ravelry) by Laura Chau
Source: knitty.com
Recipient: Myself
Occasion: My first sweater!
Completed: April 3, 2008

Yarn: 6.75 skeins of Sandes Garn Sisu in red
Needles: US 2.5 and 3
Other info: I tried to make things a little longer than the pattern, because I was doing it in a smaller size. I wanted a more fitted sweater. Unfortunately I didn't make it quite long enough. Ah well, that's what I get for not swatching ^_^
